Decatur Central Marching Band and Band Boosters Host Large Event

Seven years ago, Decatur Central Band and Band Boosters were selected to host one of the biggest Marching Band events in Indiana. The group once again will host the Class C Semi State for all of Indiana.

Marching Band has evolved into several classifications. Open class is for the marching bands who want to compete in Indiana State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium. Groups are placed into  North and South Regionals in each of 4 classes A - B - C - and D. The classes are determined by the number of students enrolled in the high school 9-12th grade.

Each Regional sends 10 bands to the SEMI - STATE for a total of 20 bands. Those 20 bands compete for a chance to be named to the top 10 - and thus, a State Finalist. Appoximately 4000 people visited the DCHS campus throughout the day.

DCHS was chosen as a site by the ISSMA group for a number of reasons. First, Decatur Central is well known for having abilitiy to host large events (we now host 5 very large events - 4 of which are state level events). Our Band Boosters and Directors have shown excellence in being organized and well supported. Mr. Cox is the Zone 6 Representitive for ISSMA and a member of the executive board and a recent member of the Marching Band Committee.

Decatur Central is also  centrally located (Indianapolis) and had groups from Evansville and Goshen - thus covering the whole state.

We have excellent facilites - a great stadium and school and adequate parking and warm up areas make Decatur Central High School an outstanding venue to host such large events.  We are DecaturProud to host the young musician of Indiana!
