NEW EXCEL CENTER TO EXPAND HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES IN DECATUR TOWNSHIP

INDIANAPOLIS — The Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Decatur Township and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana announces the opening of the 14th Excel Center in Indiana. This is the first time The Excel Center has partnered with a school corporation. In partnership with Goodwill Education Initiatives, Inc., Decatur Township adults now have the opportunity for a tuition-free high school education.

The Excel Center is designed for adults ages 18 and older to return back to school and earn a high school diploma rather than a HSED. The school is tuition-free to students and offers accelerated courses to help them reach goals faster. The center also removes any barriers that may stand in the way of adults returning to school to further their education by offering onsite drop-in childcare, transportation assistance and life coaching as part of each student’s curriculum.

“We wanted an Excel Center to open on our campus due to the growing success and impact it has on families and the local community,” said Dr. Matt Prusiecki, superintendent of MSD of Decatur Township. “We’re thrilled to work with Goodwill to bring quality education and opportunities to our residents who haven’t received it before.”

Over the last 10 years, Decatur Township has had a continual increase in the graduation rate, however there are still a number of students who exit school prior to graduation. The addition of the Excel Center will not only give dropouts a second-chance to earn their high school diploma and an industry certification, it will increase potential for higher annual salaries by an average of $9,000 per student.

Since 2010, nearly 4,000 students have graduated from The Excel Center, and the new location will help reach their goal of impacting even more families in Marion County. Since officially opening its doors at Decatur Township’s School of Excellence, more than 70 students have enrolled, which is only 30 percent away from its goal of enrolling 100 students in its first school year.

"This location presents a great opportunity for our organization to reach more adults who are seeking opportunities to further their education in Marion County,” said Betsy Delgado, Vice President of Mission and Education at Goodwill. “The support of MSD of Decatur Township will allow us to further our enhanced commitment to strengthening the community through education.”
