About eLearning Days
MSD Decatur Township will hold eLearning days when schools are closed due to inclement weather. These days allow learning to continue safely from home while maintaining the flow of instruction.
WHY eLearning?
School closures due to severe weather can disrupt the school year. eLearning provides:
- No added school days – Eliminates the need to extend the school year.
- Continuous instruction – Students continue learning without interruption.
- Safety first – Protects the well-being of students and staff during dangerous weather conditions.
WHAT Will Students Use?
- Grades K–12 will access assignments through Canvas, the district’s learning management system.
HOW Will eLearning Work?
- Student learning activities will be posted in Canvas on the day an eLearning day is called.
- Teachers will be available during the day to provide support and answer questions.
- Communication will take place through Canvas or other methods the teacher has shared with students.
What if my iPad is not working?
- Restart the iPad (completely power it down and turn it back on).
- Re-launch the Canvas app.
- If it still does not work, you can use any device with internet access to log in to Canvas through www.decaturproud.org.
- Click on the Canvas icon at the top of the page.
My student cannot access YouTube videos or specific websites assigned by the teacher.
- Make sure you are logged into Canvas with your student account.
- Logging in with the student account gives the correct permissions to open videos and websites.
My student cannot access wireless at home or another location.
- Restart the device (completely power down).
- This resets all connections and may fix wireless issues.
- Double-check that the correct Wi-Fi login and password have been entered.
My device is slow to connect to Canvas or other websites.
- Restart the device (completely power down).
- This clears memory and resets the wireless connection.
- Try reconnecting to Canvas or the website again.
What technical support will be available on eLearning days?
- A dedicated support line is available from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Call 317-856-2221 for help.
What if I cannot log into Canvas?
- Call the Canvas support line at 317-856-2221.
Connectivity Support
MSD of Decatur Township understands that network access can sometimes be a challenge.
- On an eLearning day, students should remain at home for safety.
- If home internet is not available, the district may be able to provide Wi-Fi access via a hotspot.
- Contact your teacher for additional information.
✅ Tip: Restarting your device is often the fastest way to solve connection or access issues.
How can my student(s) turn in their assignments?
- Students will submit assignments through Canvas or as instructed by their teacher.
How will students know how to complete assignments on an eLearning day?
- Teachers regularly use Canvas with students, so they are already familiar with submitting assignments.
- A video tutorial is also available on the Decatur Township website.
- Click on the YouTube icon at the top of the page and check the playlists. There is a playlist called, “Student Tutorials and Information”.
How long will my student(s) have to complete their assignments?
Asynchronous eLearning Days: No live meetings
- K-12 students will use Canvas to complete their eLearning work.
- Students work at their own pace on assignments with no live meetings.
- Teachers will have all learning activities posted to Canvas no later than 1 hour after typical school start time.
- Grades K-6 students should spend no more than 90 minutes total on elearning work.
- Middle & High School students should spend about 20-30 minutes per subject area on coursework.
- Attendance is dependent on the completion of the assigned work.
Synchronous eLearning Days: Live meetings with teachers
- Each school will share their synchronous schedule.
- K-12 students will use Google Meet to meet live with their teacher through a link provided by the teacher.
- Lesson information like Google Meet meeting link and assignments will be available in Canvas.
- Students are to attend the Google meeting, be on time and ready to interact and participate.
- Grades K-6 teachers will provide 150 minutes of live instruction through Google Meet, 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
- Grades 7-12 teachers will provide 180 minutes of live instruction through Google Meet, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
- Attendance is based on work completion and meeting attendance.

Is this for all schools?
- Yes. All K–12 schools in MSD Decatur Township will participate in eLearning days.
