Stephen Decatur Elementary has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Labcorp Charitable Foundation Grant Program to establish a school-based food pantry that will support students and families in need.
The grant was secured by Communities in Schools Site Coordinator Christina Morgan, who submitted the application on behalf of the school. Funding will be used to cover essential start-up costs, including the purchase of a refrigerator, food storage, and other necessary supplies to safely provide both perishable and nonperishable food items.
The initiative reflects a continued commitment to removing barriers to student success by addressing food insecurity within the school community. Mrs. Morgan also plans to seek community partners to help sustain and grow the pantry in the years ahead.
“We would love to help our Stephen Decatur families experiencing food insecurity through this pantry, which in turn supports their students to learn and be successful at school,” said Morgan.
The food pantry is expected to open to Stephen Decatur families at the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year, with additional details to be shared with the school community in the coming months.
Community members and organizations interested in supporting this effort through donations or partnership opportunities are encouraged to contact Stephen Decatur Elementary at 317-241-0183.
Congratulations to Mrs. Morgan and the entire Stephen Decatur Elementary team for their leadership in bringing this important resource to the school community!
