  • Question:  Why are Decatur Township school buildings closed?
    • In collaboration with Mayor Hogsett and Dr. Virginia Caine, Director of Marion County Public Health, all eleven Marion County school districts closed to help minimize the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) until Monday, April 6th.  
  • Question:  Is Decatur Township disinfecting schools and busses?
    • Starting March 13th, all maintenance and custodial staff, in conjunction with the transportation department, are cleaning all school buildings & busses, and will maintain the cleaning process until students are back to a regular school day. 
  • Question: Is AYS still available for Decatur Township students?
    • At this time, March 13th, AYS services are not available up to Friday, April 3rd due to school closure.  This will be updated when the situation changes.
  • Question:  What about my child who receives Special Education services?
    • Special Education services will be provided through eLearning.  Teachers’ of Record will be in communication with general education staff and parents as needed if there are Annual Case Conferences or Evaluations that need to be completed.
  • Question:  Are there any resources for students who need food during the school closure?
    • During eLearning days, free meals will be available to Decatur Township students at all buildings from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Child Nutrition Staff will set up tables at the front entrance of each building and DCHS Door 10. Staff will bring meals to cars as they arrive. Students will receive a sack lunch, and breakfast for the next morning. Additional meal service will also be available at DCHS and Blue and Gold Academies from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
  • Question: What if my child needs their medication?
    • Please call Central Office 317-856-5265 and we will connect you with our Coordinator of Health and Nursing services, Hayley Molin.  She will contact you and make arrangements. 
  • Question: What do I do if I need internet at home?
    • Please contact our Technology department at 317-856-2221.  
  • Question: What if my child has technical problems with his or her ipad?
    • Please call your child’s school and request technical assistance.
  • Question: Can I access Canvas from my phone?
    • Yes.  You may download it from the app store, “Canvas for Students”.
  • Question: How will students get instructional materials if they cannot access eLearning materials?
    • Please contact your child’s building for direction.  If you need further assistance, call Central Office at 317-865-5265.
  • Question: Students were expected to do standardized testing in this time period.  How will that be handled?
    • Standardized tests will be either delayed or cancelled.  We will follow direction from the Indiana Department of Education to determine next steps for this to take place
  • Question: My child left his/her device or band instrument at school.  Can they access the building?
    • Yes. Please contact your child’s building to determine when you may enter the building to acquire your child’s items.  You need to arrange this in order to have access to the building, as no one will be allowed in to our buildings without authorization.  
  • Question: What about students who attend Area 31, RISE?
    • As of today, March 13th, both facilities are closed until Monday, April 6th.  If anything changes, we will let you know. Regarding RISE, please contact Dr. Carson if you have any questions.
  • Question:  What about Athletics or Spring sports?
    • All athletic programming (practices, workouts, competitions) at DMS and DCHS is postponed until April 6th.  Please visit DCHAWKS.com for updated athletic information.
  • Question:  Is the Pavillion available for use?
    • No. The Pavillion will be closed to the public until Monday, April 6th.
