Each year, the George T. Goodwin Community Center touches the lives of more than 800 families, individuals, seniors, and children in the Mars Hill and Decatur Township area. From working families struggling to make ends meet, to seniors seeking companionship and ways to stay healthy, the Goodwin Community Center connects neighbors and families with the resources that promote independence and life-long growth.
The George T. Goodwin Community Center exists to enable families and individuals to connect with the community, to find the help they need and to improve their future.
Staff & Volunteers
Toby Salyers, Executive Director
Toby Salyers currently serves as Executive Director at the George T. Goodwin Community Center. Toby attended both George Washington and Crispus Attucks High Schools and Greenville College. Toby began his work in non-profits as an AmeriCorps volunteer and has held several positions in his work for non-profits. Toby currently serves as the President of the Southwest Health Center Board, Board Chair of the HealthNet Board as well as serving on the executive, finance and quality committees, is a former board member of the West Indianapolis Development Corporation and the West Indianapolis Community Fund where he served on the grants committee. He also served as Past President of the Decatur Central Lions Club. Toby attends the Valley Mills Friends Meeting where he serves on Ministry and Council and is chair of the Annual Chicken Barbeque. Toby was also selected as the 2010 Honorary Alumnus of the Year for Decatur Central High School and is a W.P. Woods Fellow and a Melvin Jones Fellow.
