My name is John Morse and I am the proud director of the Global Small Learning Community (SLC) at Decatur Middle School.

The Global SLC is primarily housed on the second floor in the western hallway at Decatur Middle School.  In the Global SLC we work to support the Decatur Middle School focus of demonstrating P. R. I. D. E. (Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence) in our educational process. Global students will experience their core academic classes (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies) within the Global SLC. Our 7th and 8th grade teachers collaborate closely together to support students and families through academic and social growth opportunities. Students will also meet daily with their “homeroom”  teachers in the Global community in STAR (Students Teachers And Relationships) to develop strong relationships, work on real world skills and read! In the Global community we take great pride in these relationships and feel responsible for supporting our students' progress.

Students will travel out of the Global SLC to experience EAC (Extended Academic Core) classes to further enrich their learning. Students will have enriching opportunities to grow through learning experiences in health, physical education, visual arts, music, computers, foreign language and Project Lead the Way.

It is our belief in Global that students learn in a variety of ways and will be given those opportunities to excel. Our teachers work diligently to identify our students strengths, build their capacity and provide support where needed to maximize their potential.
