Decatur Township, Indianapolis, IN — Decatur Central High School is thrilled to announce Nick Walpole as the new Head Coach for the men’s wrestling program. Son of former Hawk Wrestling Coach (1995 Decatur Central Athletic Hall of Famer and 2000 IHSWCA Hall of Fame inductee David Walpole), Nick looks to follow in his fathers footsteps in building a championship program at Decatur Central High School.
Walpole’s passion for the sport began at a young age, and he carried it with him throughout his academic career. He graduated from Perry Meridian High School in 2006 where he was crowned State Champion in the 2005 Wrestling season. Upon graduation, Nick started his College career at IU where he wrestled from 2007-2010. Nick would later transfer to UIndy for his senior season, where he was crowned National Champion in 2011.
"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to lead the Hawks Wrestling Program. I look forward to building a great culture and winning tradition" Walpole shared.
MSD of Decatur Township Director of Operations, Justin Dixson, praised the new hire, stating, "Nick brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our school and Wrestling program. He will do a great job building on the great tradition and history of our program." Dixson also said. “There is a passion for wrestling in our community. Nick will harness that passion to provide a fantastic education-based athletic experience for our student-athletes and families.”
Nick brings ample coaching experience to Decatur Central, including being the Lady Hawks Head Wrestling Coach this past school year. He and his wife Arianna have three kids, Anabelle age 9, Archer age 7 and Nash age 6.
