Gold Academy is proud to offer Breakfast Buddy groups, a morning opportunity that helps young students start their day with confidence and support. These small groups focus on social-emotional strategies such as deep breathing, yoga, and identifying emotions to ease the transition into school.
Principal Mrs. Humphries explains:
“Our Breakfast Buddy groups are a safe space that offers comfort to students to ensure that they have a great start to their day. Anyone who needs additional support is invited to attend this daily morning group.”
Through activities including role play, books, and video, students practice expressing their needs, building confidence in social situations, and forming positive relationships in a supportive setting. The goal is then for students to apply the strategies throughout their day. A visit to Mrs. Rouse’s morning group included an emotions check-in, breakfast, a video and discussion of self-control, and practice bubble breathing, along with many hugs and smiles.
Inspired by educator Jasper Fox’s words — “Putting your students' emotional needs first is important because without feeling safe and understood, no instructional strategy will be effective” — Gold Academy is committed to helping students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn every day.
