Digital Transformation Initiative

The MSD of Decatur Township is transforming teaching and learning through a district wide initiative called the Digital Transformation. Through technology, we redefine classroom learning and the relationships between school, home and the community. The Digital Transformation is one of the most important steps in preparing our students for a successful future in this ever-changing world.

The Digital Transformation involves upgrades in network, hardware and software along with professional development that support effective teaching through enhanced technology.

Hardware

Network

Our upgraded wireless network and increased bandwidth supports the addition of new devices in each classroom. Faster, more reliable internet access enables teachers to create more engaging learning experiences, enhanced with technology.

Software

Our upgrades in hardware allow the MSD of Decatur Township to use cutting edge software to engage with students and families.

Since 2014 we have been using live streaming technology to broadcast school programs and awards ceremonies to working parents, and out of town family members. We have had deployed military members tune in from overseas to watch their children perform. MSD Decatur schools have also used live streaming technology for distance learning instruction. Using such technology allows our district to better serve our stakeholders to follow their learning pathways to success.

Web based programs such as Xello and Canvas are accessible to students and families anytime and anywhere. These programs allow parents and students to successfully plan for their school work, and future career paths.

Professional Development

The MSD of Decatur Township ensure that we effectively transform teaching and learning by supporting teachers through a robust professional development program. Professional development is offered online and in person, during summers and through each school year. MSD Decatur utilizes the SAMR model for technology integration that will ease technology into the classroom on 4 levels: Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition.

The mission of the Technology Department, in collaboration with educators, is to integrate cutting edge hardware and software technology into the culture of MSD Decatur Township Schools to provide relevant and meaningful learning experiences for its students and staff.
