About the School

Stephen Decatur Elementary is located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, Indiana serving roughly 500 students in the 1st through 6th grades. As Stephen Decatur Eagles, we embrace our school colors of red, white, and black. Our Core Values are Responsibility, Safety, and Respect.

Mission

We are student invested, community connected. We prioritize student learning, safety, and customer service.

Instruction

Students have daily instruction in the areas of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.  They have special area classes that include visual art, general music, physical education, and media.  Additionally, students have opportunity to participate in extended learning classes twice per week, and clubs once per week.  Every student is assigned an iPad.  This allows for individualized instruction, blending learning, and a focus on 21st Century Learning.  Students in grades 3-6 take their iPads home daily for continued learning.

Students with exceptional needs are served at Stephen Decatur.  We have a special education team that co-teaches with general education teachers.  They also provide resource room experiences for students.  High Ability Clusters are available in every grade level. Students who are second language learners receive services from qualified staff. We are Decatur Proud to meet every student's needs at Stephen Decatur.

Additional Services

Due to valued partnerships, we have two Community in Schools Site Coordinators that support students and families.  We also have a clinic with a full-time registered nurse.
