Message from Director
Hello Imagine Families!
My name is Rachel Blumke and I am the Director for the Imagine Small Learning Community at Decatur Middle School. I began attending Decatur Township schools when I was in the 3rd grade, am a graduate of Decatur Central High School, and a proud member of this great community. I have over 15 years of educational experiences, both as a teacher and administrator, from 3 different school districts throughout Central Indiana. I am very excited to begin serving you and our community as the Director of Imagine.
Our goal in Imagine is to simply do what is best for kids by supporting the whole student. We strive every day to assist our students in demonstrating our DMS Hawk P.R.I.D.E. (Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence). The Imagine community, as well as all small learning communities, provides our students with a “home base”. Students meet daily in S.T.A.R. (Students, Teachers, And Relationships) classes to develop a strong relationship with an adult at DMS. We believe our STAR class assists students in their development, both socially and emotionally, at this critical time in a child’s life.
As you know, middle school is also a time of increased academic development and focus for children. At Decatur Middle School, we are excited to offer our students a quality education no matter what SLC they are in. Curriculum, throughout the entire building, is aligned to best support students academically as they transition to Decatur Central High School. Instruction in Imagine is provided both with and for students through a combination of hands on experiences, project learning, and individualized approaches. We know that students progress at different rates, and we work to ensure that each child achieves his or her personal best.
Together, parents and school staff form the strongest team that can support students on their developmental journey through middle school. I look forward to working with you as a member of the Imagine family and sincerely thank you for your partnership and support.
