DC Fine Arts Student Leadership Workshop a Success

On Wed., August 23, DCHS Fine Arts presented a Student Leadership Workshop with acclaimed author, speaker, and band director Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser.  Forty-five DCHS Band and Choir students were selected to attend, and they were joined by about 370 high school musicians from across central Indiana.  Students from DCHS have been attending this workshop for many years, and DCHS has been privileged to host it since 2010.  Workshop topics included:

·         Setting High Standards of Excellence

·         Fundamentals of Self-Discipline

·         Effective Communication Principles

·         Value of Risk

·         Behavior Modification vs. Motivation

·         Dealing with Insecurities

“Dr. Tim,” as he is affectionately known, is a nationally recognized voice touting the importance of arts education for every child and has presented workshops on student leadership around the world for more than 35 years and to some three million students.  He serves as Vice President of Education for Conn-Selmer, Inc.  His books, produced by G.I.A. Publications, Inc., continue to be bestsellers in the educational community. He is also co-author of popular band method, Essential Elements.  Tim serves as Senior Educational Consultant for Hal Leonard, Inc. and Senior Educational Advisor for Music for All, and NAMM (The National Association of Music Merchants).  He is presently the Chair of the National Association for Music Education Music Honor Society (Tri-M).
