DTSA was started when Dr G. W. Montgomery ask Dave Rather to locate parents to volunteer to run the committee.  We were Dollars for Scholars until 2013.  I would not use the “Dollars” reference, as the parent organization told us not to use it after breaking off.  Several of the current committee were members of that first group. 

 

Our first year was 1992 and we awarded 12 scholarships for a total of $6,000.  Beginning with $500 awards, we have increased through the years and now all awards are for $1,000.  In 2017 we awarded 47 scholarships of $1,000 and we have now awarded 1,213 separate Scholarships for a total of $985,550. 

 

This would not be possible without our schools, the Administration, businesses, and friends of MSD Decatur including the many Memorial donations. 

 

Our annual Phon-a-thon begins Jan 22, when students call Decatur Township residents and we also mail to the business community.

 

Applications for 2018 awards are available on the MSD Decatur site and due Feb. 9th.  Our Afternoon of Recognition where Scholarship Awards are presented by the donors will be Sunday May 20th.

 

The “Wall of Honor” located inside front door of DCHS has the names of $1,000 accumulated donors.
